Xenia Christian Girls Track Team Competes at the Fairmont Firebird

Thursday and Friday of last week, the Xenia Christian Girl’s track team took on the mighty forces of Division I track at the Fairmont Firebird Invitational. The competition was steep with schools like Beavercreek, Alter, Springboro, Troy, Carroll, and Centerville; 20 teams in all participated. When the meet was complete, Xenia Christian left a mark for others to remember. The small squad of 12 Ambassadors placed 9th as a team. “The team is solid and really hitting peak shape as we prepare for the challenges to come with MBC Conference and Districts. The Firebird was a good tune up for us, and great preparation for state competition.” Stated Coach Robin Norman. The 4X200 relay (Loria Williams, Courtney Bullard, Kirsten Woodard, Michaela Nelson) placed 5th, and the 4X400 relay (Williams, Bullard, Woodard, Carissa Riggle) placed 10th. In the individual events the Ambassador’s “Triple Threat” rose to the occasion. Bethany Norman took 6th in the 1600m, and 8th in the 3200m. Loria Williams qualified for finals in the 100m hurdles in 1st position but took 5th over all. In the 300m hurdles she posted a solid time and took 6th. However, the best performances of the night were turned in by Michaela Nelson, a sophomore at Xenia Christian. She edged out her competitor in the 100m dash for 1st place, then took 2nd in the 200m by a hair. The most amazing race of the night was the 400m dash where Michaela blazed a time of 57.75 sec. and won with no one close. Her time puts her as the leader in the state for the 400m run for both Division II and III. “God has given us amazing talent to work with this year, and we are excited to see what the rest of the season brings.” Commented Coach Jim Preston.
