Xenia Christian Girls and Boys Cross Country Teams Take First at the Ambassador Classic

The Ambassador Cross Country teams have been off to an amazing start this year. They have competed in the Bob Schul Invitational and the Greenville Treaty Meet so far on their season. Both Boy’s and Girl’s teams have run well and placed in the top 10 at these Invitationals. Saturday was an opportunity to compete infront of the home crowd, and they were not disappointed. Coach Jim Preston stated, “This is the first time in school history that Xenia Christian has earned 3 trophies at our own meet. The athletes were truly inspiring this weekend in what they accomplished as a team.”
The JR High Girls team started the morning off by taking 2nd place and beating out Hillsboro and Ankenny. Some strong performers were Rachel Sweeney, Grace Norman, Ari Nelson, Ann Kensinger, and Lauren Simmons. Then the Sr. High Girls took to the 5K course. Bethany Norman won the race for the third year in a row. Her team mates Carrie Clauson, Sarah Kensinger, Caitlin O’Guinn, and Natalie Clauson sealed up the first place trophy with solid races. “The Ambassador girls have a very strong team this year. They are a great group of girls to coach, and I believe God has an amazing season in store for them.” Commented Coach Robin Norman. Final Girls’ standings were Xenia Christian 41, Yellow Springs 54, Cedarville 78, Xenia 121. Top finishers for Yellow Springs were Lois Miller, Alex Brown, and Rachel Meyer. Top finishers for Cedarville were Holly Fudge, Kristianna Williams, and Georgie Sandlin. Top finishers for Xenia were Carissa Mitchell, Lauren Brickey, and Dominique Couser.
The final race of the day was the Sr. High Boys who took to the course with a mission in mind. “The boys were prepared to run today, and I have to say they left everything out on the course. I am truly excited to see what the rest of the season has in store for XC.” Stated Coach Preston. When the final runner crossed the finish line, the Xenia Christian Boy’s team took a solid first place. The Ambassador top five runners were Drew Riggle, Haakon Nelson, David Granduioller, Noah Dean, and Casey Surls. Final Boys’ standings were Xenia Christian 52, Cedarville 78, Xenia 162.
