Michaela Nelson D4 District Player of the Year for girls varsity basketball and Subway Athlete of the Month.

Michaela Nelson Receives Two Awards for Basketball:  Subway/Clear Channel Athlete of the Week and SW District Player of the Year

Xenia Christian senior Michaela Nelson is the Subway/Clear Channel Athlete of the Week for the week of March 4th to be announced on radio stations 107.7 and 99.9 FM.  Michaela will receive a plaque and Subway gift card.  She is co-captain of the Girls’ Varsity Basketball team.  She is a four-year starter with a Varsity career point total over 1,200 going into the postseason.

Michaela has overcome adversity having incurred an injury to her mid-foot at a basketball practice on Feb. 6th, 2012.  The injury was soon diagnosed as Painful Accessory Navicular Syndrome and it caused her to miss the last four games of the season.  It also greatly inhibited her 2012 Track season.  She was unable to advance out of Regionals to the State meet in sprints where she had placed 5th and 3rd as a Freshman and Sophomore.  The injury took 10 months to completely recover from and often requires surgery for a small percent of the population who have this extra bone in their foot.

Michaela has also been recently named District Player of the Year among the 35 teams in the OHSAA’s SW District Division IV, a great honor.  She is only the second girl in Xenia Christian history to receive this award.

A rural Wilmington resident and daughter of Lance and Jacque Nelson, Michaela also shines in the classroom where she maintains a 3.93 GPA.  She is, also, a National Honor Society member, and Varsity Volleyball captain.  She aspires to continue her Track or possibly Basketball career at the collegiate level and plans to major in Athletic Training.
